Kshemeshwar Ghat, once known as Someshwar Ghat and Nala Ghat, rests in the Ghasi Tola area of Varanasi. It’s named after the Kshemeshwar Mahadev Temple. The ghat is linked to a legend about a demon named Kshemak who, through his intense devotion to Lord Shiva, built a temple there, turning the ghat into a sacred site for Shiva devotees.
The ghat was refurbished in 1958 by the Government of Uttar Pradesh and later made solid in 1962 by the Sri Kumaraswamy Mutt, a Tamil monastery founded by a South Indian saint. This blend of northern and southern traditions gives the ghat a quiet cultural depth.
What makes Kshemeshwar Ghat special is its cluster of self-manifested Shiva Lingams, said to embody the presence of Lord Shiva himself. Devotees come here to seek forgiveness for past sins, especially during festivals like Naga Panchami and Mahashivratri, when the ghat glows with ritual energy.
