लक्ष्मी कुंड के बारे में
Tucked away in one of the quieter corners of Kashi is a small, serene water tank. It’s called Lakshmi Kund — and like many places in this ancient city, it holds a story that whispers rather than shouts.
With significant mythological and religious importance, it is believed to be linked to the Hindu concepts of resurrection and reincarnation, and is also associated with the goddess Lakshmi and the Kashi Khand, a Hindu scripture.
According to Hindu mythology, Lord Shiva entrusted the preservation of Varanasi's water bodies to 64 yoginis. Mayuri Yogini was assigned the responsibility of guarding Lakshmi Kund. The scripture Kashi Khand mentions Lakshmi Kund and emphasizes the importance of bathing in it and worshipping Mahalakshmi for achieving divine powers and prosperity.
The kund also hosts the Sorahiya Mela, a 16-day fair, which culminates in the Jiutputrika festival where women fast for the well-being of their sons.
Over time, the kund became a place where seekers would come to reflect — not on what they had, but on what truly mattered. And even today, Lakshmi Kund remains humble. No crowds, no noise — just still water that has watched centuries pass. It reminds those who visit that even prosperity bows before purity, and that real richness is often found in silence, simplicity, and surrender.
