नया घाट के बारे में
In a city where time folds upon itself, where every stone speaks of centuries, the name “Naya Ghat” — the new ghat — feels like a pause. A reset. Proof that even in Kashi, the eternal can make space for the present.
The old name of this ghat was Phuteshwar Ghat, which had a Shiva temple called Phuteshwar Mahadev. In 1940, a rich resident of Chainpur in Bihar, Narsingh Japal, refurbished the ghat and since then, it is called the Naya Ghat. It is also believed to be where Lord Rama bathed, adding a layer to its importance, apart from being a popular spot for pilgrims during festivals.
You’ll find no massive shrines here, but small shrines built with intention. The sound of temple bells mixes with the laughter of children learning to swim. Flower sellers spread marigolds beside the steps. Evening lamps float out here too — and the river accepts them as kindly as she does at Dashashwamedh.
