श्री संकट मोचन मंदिर के बारे में
The Sankat Mochan Hanuman Temple is one of the most revered temples in Varanasi, dedicated to Lord Hanuman, the symbol of strength, devotion, and remover of obstacles. The name Sankat Mochan itself means “reliever of troubles,” and devotees believe that sincere prayers here free them from hardships and bring peace and prosperity.
The temple was established in the early 16th century by the saint-poet Goswami Tulsidas, the composer of the Ramcharitmanas and Hanuman Chalisa. Legend says Tulsidas had a divine vision of Lord Hanuman at this very spot, which inspired him to build the temple. Because of this, the temple holds immense historical and spiritual importance for devotees of both Lord Hanuman and Lord Rama.
Inside the sanctum, the idol of Lord Hanuman is adorned with sindoor (vermilion) and marigold garlands, as per tradition. Tuesdays and Saturdays are considered especially auspicious, drawing thousands of devotees who come to recite the Hanuman Chalisa and offer sweets, flowers, and oil lamps. During the festival of Hanuman Jayanti, the temple witnesses an extraordinary gathering of worshippers from all over India.
The temple also plays a cultural role in Varanasi. It is closely linked with music and dance, hosting the famous Sankat Mochan Sangeet Samaroh, an annual classical music and dance festival that attracts renowned artists and performers. This unique blending of devotion and art enhances the temple’s status as both a spiritual and cultural landmark of the city.
Surrounded by a peaceful atmosphere and located near the Assi area, the Sankat Mochan Temple remains a must-visit destination for pilgrims seeking divine blessings and relief from life’s troubles.
